Color, light, and birth space design: An integrative review

This integrative review sought knowledge across a broad spectrum of literature concerning the role color and light in maternity environments. Today it is acknowledged that clinical nature birth spaces detrimental to maintaining normal physiological rates. Significantly, “clinical” are often described as white, pale, monochromatic, and/or overlit. Attempts make settings more “home-like” have promoted use “warm” or “soft” colors. Ambience spatial atmosphere known impact hormones, affecting labor commencement progress. Today, efforts improve include “sensory rooms” (offering pain distraction via dark illuminated elements); programmable colored installations; immersive image projections. Yet, this paper shows, there little specific study physical psychological within settings. However, significant findings on light's upon processes, including contraindication bright blue light.
